If you had dreams of being a lawyer put on hold because of family or some other issue, then I have good news for you. You can still find work as a lawyer and do it in your spare time. Remote work is becoming more normal than ever and being a lawyer is perfectly suited to this.
If you are thinking of going back to school and getting a degree, you can go for a law degree and work a stay at home job doing law work. Remote work can be done in just about every field, so if your dream to be a lawyer was put on hold, then now is the time to reignite it.
In this article, I will go over several ways you can work remotely as a lawyer.
Types of law work that can be done remotely
The options for working remotely as a lawyer are almost limitless. Just about anything you could do in the office, you can do at home.
For instance, you could be responsible for writing contracts for businesses, artists or even physicians as you can see here.
There is quite a bit of work for you if you want to be a lawyer who does wills or living wills for clients. You can even set yourself up in your own practice and have plenty of work keeping you busy.
If you specialize in real estate, then there are deeds to be done and purchasing agreements that can all be done from home. Just research your point of interest and you will find one that doesn’t require you to work in an office.
Finding clients
If you’re going to work for yourself, then you’ll need to also be a bit of a marketer. Find a field to specialize in and then become a resource for people that need that type of lawyer.
Start a website that has a portfolio so you can let people know exactly what it is that you do and how you can help them.
To attract people to your website, you should also have a blog section. Write articles about the type of problems your clients are likely to be facing as they will be searching for that online. Getting your website on the first page of Google results for your keywords will bring in a lot of your clients.
Use productivity apps
If you are not going to be doing this full time, then you’ll need to make sure you are maximising your time. Being as productive as possible will have you making more money with the limited time that you have.
Using an app or software can help keep you focused and on track so you aren’t wasting time with distractions. It is far too easy to be distracted when working from home and a productivity app will end up being your best friend.
One that helps is the pomodoro technique. It has a strange name, but the idea is that you set a timer for 45 minutes and work without a break during that time. Then for 15 minutes you can go get a coffee or anything else you want. You’ll get far more done than you would by putting your head down and trying to bang it out in one shot.
